About the artist:
The women from the Jequitinhonha vale have alchemically transformed a 300 year violent land history, imprinted in the clay into sacred transcendent objects. These ceramics wonders grace museums, exhibitions, and cultural centers, and echo the unwavering spirit of the women known as the “Living Husband Widows or Dryland Widows” who faced the challenge of sustaining their families as men left for work in the cities. Clay, abundant and transformative, became their refuge, from practical vessels to dolls and decorative art, they say, "from the dry land where not even a flower stick grows, clay dolls began to sprout". This legacy passed through generations, carried by mothers, daughters, and sometimes sons. This artistic lineage traces back over 300 years, resonating with the enduring strength and resourcefulness of these remarkable women.
